There
are many different types of applications where a
permanent soil stabilization treatment for large
areas of exposed bare earth is desirable. Construction
sites are one good example as they need dust control
and erosion control during the interim between site
preparation and construction and then a solid all-weather
working platform for building operations. In the
arid and semi-arid climates of much of the Western
and Southwestern states, it is often not practical
to plant and irrigate vegetative cover for solar
and wind power sites, landfill closures and airport
shoulder and infield areas. Cement and lime stabilizers
are costly and ineffective for these applications.
Spray-applied polymer products are effective for
short-term erosion control requirement, but costly
to apply and reapply.
The
EMC SQUARED® System stabilizer products are
uniquely effective in providing long term stabilization
for areas of bare earth or constructed soil structures.
Construction of a new main runway and taxiway system
for El Paso International Airport (EPIA) required
stabilization of approximately two million square
feet of bare earth areas between the paved areas
and the stormwater impoundment reservoirs. Having
previously used the EMC SQUARED System products
for stabilization of exposed soils at the EPIA airport,
project engineers again specified the product to
provide erosion resistant surfaces and protect stormwater
retention reservoirs from sediment accumulation.
